ACSR/AW (Aluminium Conductor Aluminium Clad Steel Reinforced)
This is a variation of the standard ACSR (Aluminum Conductor Steel Reinforced) conductor, where the steel core is coated with a layer of aluminum (aluminum-clad steel) to improve corrosion resistance, especially in harsh environments.
Key Features of ACSR/AW:
- Steel Core: The central steel strands provide high tensile strength, which is essential for long spans and heavy loads in transmission lines
- Aluminum Clad Steel: The steel core is clad in aluminum to enhance corrosion resistance. This makes ACSR/AW suitable for use in coastal areas, industrial environments, or places with high pollution levels, where corrosion is a significant concern
- High Conductivity: The outer aluminum strands contribute to excellent electrical conductivity, while the aluminum-clad steel core maintains the overall durability
- Durability in Harsh Conditions: The aluminum cladding helps extend the lifespan of the conductor in corrosive environments, compared to traditional ACSR conductors with a galvanized steel core.
